Tory Burch showcased the upcoming Fall/Winter collection at New York Fashion Week. Constructed to challenge perceptions of beauty and femininity, the collection breaks down traditional wardrobe pieces and reinterprets through sculpting, tailoring and twisting.
Throughout the collection, a dichotomy plays out between relaxed and curve hugging shapes and the tension of opposing materials. Materials are raw-cut and weathered, logos hang off bags and heels are broken. Details that are typically hidden are brought to the surface, such as lingerie, interior construction, and safety pins.
Before the show, images of the Venus de Milo were projected and distorted on columns throughout the space. The Hellenistic sculpture remains an icon of femininity despite thousands of years and inevitable damage — a demonstration of the beauty of imperfection and the power of things that last.
Runway show attendees included Claire Foy, Suki Waterhouse, Ashley Graham, Lana Condor, Claudia Sulewski and more. Wladimir Schall produced the show’s music, which included “Smalltown Boy” by Bronski Beat, “Casta Diva” by Bellini, “Sweet Dreams” by Eurythmics and “You’re So Vain” by Carly Simon.
