Now that you have all the time in the world to keep up on your music game, you probably know what’s up. Are you down with the hyperpop/glitch-core Scene? Let me tell you about the new face of post-pandemic punk that’s exploding out of bedrooms all over the map. It all starts with [CMTEN](https://www.instagram.com/cmt3n/), (pronounced See Em Ten), a 19-year-old Danville, California kid who studies at The University of Utah by day and circuit-breaks beats out of his Macbook by night.
CMTEN (that’s the only name you’ll get out of him) has created a track called "[**Never Met!**](https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D7PCYWAvuULA&data=02%7C01%7CRick.Gershon%40warnerrecords.com%7C79df1453f95d453ad85908d84b779047%7C8367939002ec4ba1ad3d69da3fdd637e%7C0%7C0%7C637342324182609548&sdata=sebGF%2B7UhgfO9FcQw2rFUVmixsJYbcMjIQ9fCA0T06I%3D&reserved=0)" that’s raking up views on both Youtube and TikTok. Overblown hip-hop beats mixed with auto-tuned vocals twist around keyboards and other computer-generated lo-fi sounds wash over an emotional story of heartbreak in a whirlwind pop blast in all of 2 minutes and 49 seconds. All you’ll want to do is hit it again… and again. It’s immediate and infectious.
CMTEN states, “The best way to describe my music is an amalgamation of random online influence. All the media I consume, whether it be music, TV or games, has a heavy influence on my work — which means my music constantly shifts stylistically. Being exposed to such a vast array of content online as a child, it comes as no surprise that my music is as all over the place as the Internet itself.”
Currently signed to Masked Records/Warner Records, CMTEN cites influences as Lil Peep, Fall Out Boy Subtronics, Car Seat Headrest, and Omar Apollo chopped and channeled through a love of PC Music, Pokémon games, Studio Ghibli films, and lots more. He writes and records everything by himself at home or in his dorm in a furious rush of creativity.
