However, by deciding to take action and work toward your goal, you open room for more opportunities, and you slowly start to figure out the next steps. This is exactly how Dr. Cesar Velilla came to be one of the top surgeons in his field.
Cesar studied general surgery and plastic surgery at Universidad de Brasil and was at the top of his class. His education is unique because he has a dynamic background in internal medicine, critical care, general surgery, and plastic surgery. This makes him an outstanding doctor with extensive knowledge in his field.
In pursuit of his American dream, Cesar Velilla, also known as Dr. Lipo, left his home country of Colombia and relocated to the U.S. With no money and not speaking English, Dr. Lipo struggled to settle in, but he didn’t let that stop him from attaining success and changing lives.
Today, Cesar is a surgeon specializing in aesthetic and plastic surgery. He’s the founder of Evolution MD. With his team of professional surgeons, Dr. Lipo is positively changing lives. They are skilled in a variety of procedures, including but not limited to liposuction, breast augmentation, hair transplant, and rhinoplasty. Dr. Lipo is also helping fight the stigma associated with cosmetic surgery.
According to Dr. Lipo, no one should be put in a situation where they have to explain to the public why they had a particular procedure performed on them, and no one should be treated differently because they had a particular procedure done. He notes that while society is slowly opening up and changing its perspective on cosmetic surgery, the industry is not there yet. Dr. Lipo believes that the best way to beat the stigma is by educating people about the different procedures and empowering patients.
In all of his eight clinics, Dr. Lipo has adapted a system that encourages patients to ask a question about the various procedures while at the same time helping people understand that there are different reasons why someone would want to undergo a certain procedure. Since he entered the industry, Dr. Lipo has made it his mission to change plastic and cosmetic surgery. Cesar Velilla says his desire to create a better working environment pushed him to soldier on even when facing challenges.
Even though he had already graduated in his country as an MD, getting to the U.S. meant starting over. Dr. Lipo had to learn how to speak English and he had to attend his medical residency. He recalls sometimes having to spend a whole day translating a page of a medical book with his dictionary. Dr. Lipo was also working different jobs to make enough money to keep him going and to support his family back home. He did anything he could to get closer to his dreams. He worked numerous jobs, including a pizza delivery guy and a children’s birthday entertainer where he found himself dressing up as Barney and Spiderman.
Dr. Lipo established his place in the industry by fighting for his dream and putting in the work. He has been a plastic and cosmetic surgeon for the past 13 years. He has received many awards, including the American Medical Top Patient Choice Award (2008–2013) and AAACH’s highest certification for outpatient surgery in 2015. Dr. Lipo also developed the V-SLIMSCULPTURE technique, which has been performed in more than 400,000 areas over the last 11 years.
Ultimately, success is the result of hard work, perseverance, and dedication. There’s never a perfect time to start anything, and the longer you wait, the more you derail your success. As Dr. Lipo continues to change lives, he is working to construct one of the most advanced cosmetic surgery centers in Florida. After that, his sights are set on global expansion.
