This Tuesday saw Armando Cabral debut NKYINKYIM, a home living installation in partnership with the Swiss furniture brand USM. The installation combines the modular furniture of USM with the African inspired designs of Cabral—creating a first-of-its-kind collection. Elements of this innovative collection include a geometric bed frame, angular bookshelves and a valet wardrobe stand.
According to Cabral, “at its core, [his cultural project] is about celebrating the art of living—blending culture, creativity, and community,” this sentiment is reflected in the welcoming yet inventive furniture designs of the new collaboration. The title of NKYINKYIM is in reference to the Adinkra symbol of the same name. Just like the furniture it inspires, the Adinkra symbol represents the many twisting pathways our lives take.
For the collection’s debut, the USM’s Soho showroom hosted a New York Fashion Week launch party. Guests of the launch party included Angelica Hicks, Richard Biedul, Anna Gray, Ian Bradley, and Marem Ladson.
