Falling on Valentine’s Day at New York Fashion Week, American designer Thom Browne’s Women’s and Men’s Fall 2024 show ignited imaginations of frozen eeriness, its collection personified by a narration of Edgar Allen Poe’s The Raven performed by actress Carrie Coon.
Models walked in hourglass, body-skimming, deconstructed shapes of blacks and whites adorned in silk, canvas, wool flannels, and velvets against a stage that evoked atmospherical emptiness: a scene covered in snow, decorated with bare trees and their jutting, sharp branches, wooden fences, and a ray of light coming from a broken window.
This collection’s coat tailoring is complete with prominent shoulder silhouettes made of military-weight cashmere with gold and silver embroidery against outerwear of satin, shearling, and leather. Tuxedos and denim tweed feature as shredded garments, while other pieces are decorated with ribbons, bows, and satin-stitched roses.
