Phony Ppl is the genre-defying, Brooklyn born quintet. Having toured amongst Kali Uchis, Pusha T, and produced for Mac Miller, the group then went viral with their [NPR Tiny Desk performance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gP0-sDkFS8).
Today, the band shares "Fkn Around," the first single off their highly anticipated album. The track seeks to normalize and support a woman's right to her sexual freedom, making their guest feature, Megan Thee Stallion, a perfect fit with her "Hot Girl" platform. **_Flaunt_** spoke with singer-rapper Elbee Thrie, guitarist Elijah Rawk, drummer Matthew Byas, keyboardist Aja Grant and bassist Bari Bass, about the track and upcoming music video.
**While you're known for genre-defying music, If you had to name your sound, what would it be?**
We wouldn't . We would spend the time enjoying and making the music that comes to mind. To sit and think about what "the sound is" or what genre we are is just a waste compared to the multitude of ideas that could be made at that time.
**_"Fkn Around" expresses admiration for a woman's sexual freedom. As artists and individuals, why was this an important topic to touch on?_**
We think that as we progress into a new climate and culture surrounding sexual expression and freedom collectively as humanity, it's important for us to recognize and acknowledge how important it is for people to be themselves and live life loudly without having to feel that constant overmatching fear of judgment. We all personally believe in everyone's right to be whoever they want to be. (And most likely we've all seen a scenario of a girl OR a guy being a little less than 100% faithful at times haha...)
**What was it like working with Megan Thee Stallion?**
Working with Meg on "Fkn Around" was great. Shoutout to Selim and our label for putting that together. We created this really sweet groove in Philly with our guy Ivan Barias, who produced the track. From what our topic was, we wanted to counter it with an amazing verse from the opposite gender to give it variety. Our label showed Meg the song with the disclaimer "I know you don't really do this... but...." and Meg loved it and jumped right on it. Since then, we've performed it on \[NPR\] Tiny Desk, and the people loved it. Meg is amazing, and she's fun to be around.
**What can you tell us about the forthcoming video for "Fkn Around"?**
The video is fire; probably the most professional and put together video we've done to date. It was amazing working with everyone. And doing D’Usse shots with Meg in the trailer was fun.
