Sebastian Paul isn't your average military brat. Though he's skitted around, geographically and sonically, all his life, with “Impatient”, his new single and video, he seems to have found his true course. The track is imbued with swagger and self-assurance and his woozy angst-ridden anti-pop seems entirely of the moment. “Impatient” is about finding yourself, but realizing that in order to do so it means leaving someone else. A tough call in these times, but unsurprising from one who's instagram handle, at the time of writing, reads FIRST PLACE IN THE RAT RACE.
As Paul shares, “Waiting on someone you love to have a change of heart can be maddening. Time passes like sand and you find yourself constantly wondering if the grass is greener elsewhere. “Impatient” takes place when the desire to seek those greener pastures outweighs the comfort of normality."
Flaunt is pleased to debut the video for “Impatient” today. Paul, unafraid to play the muse, directed it himself, a kinetic ball of energy. "My aim with the music video was to create multiple distinct worlds to exist within. Cerebral scenes of greener pastures juxtaposed against harsh concrete reality. Intense movement set against tranquil stillness. All painting a larger picture in telling the story."
Six months ago Paul released his EP Boy Oh Boy, charting the course of adolescence, and the journey from boy to man. It's been a tumultuous period since then, but if this is what we get from a young artist coming of age during Corona, maybe there's hope after all. If not, as Paul's opening refrain states, 'Get into your battle position'.
