Tony Joe White’s posthumous album [_Smoke from the Chimney_](https://found.ee/tjwsftc) is set to release on May 7th with Easy Eye Sound. Produced by superstar Dan Auerbach—one half of The Black Keys and producer for the likes of Cage the Elephant, Dr. John, Lana Del Rey, and more—the album will commemorate White with nine previously unreleased tracks, including recently released “Boot Money.”
White spent the last 10 to 15 years of his life composing new songs and revisiting old ones, leaving many behind after his passing. White’s son and manager Jody White turned to Auerbach to help him to bring those tracks to life. Looking back on the process, Auerbach says, “For this project, his son Jody gave us many photos to pour over-and consider for packaging. He was one stylish mother-f-er. Throughout the years, he always had such an effortless, cool style. The album cover was a photo taken by his wife Leann White and just stood out to us to match the overall feel of the album.”
Auerbach collaborated with some of Nashville’s best, like Bobby Wood (keyboardist for Elvis Presley, Dusty Springfield, Wilson Pickett), Paul Franklin (pedal steel), Marcus King (guitar), and Grammy and ACM award-winning fiddler Stuart Duncan. Additional to the musicians featured, Auerbach remarks on the album art collaboration. "The album cover was designed by Philly artist/recluse/t-shirt hoarder Perry Shall,” Auerbach says. “We designed it together to have the handmade feel the music has, and to reflect the album title, _Smoke From The Chimney_." To honor White’s legacy, Auerbach and the artists he onboarded took care and dedication when crafting this album, in order to ensure it is a one-of-a-kind tribute to a very special artist.
