In the heart of downtown Manhattan, NoHo is home to a rich history and a vibrant present. As the first and only Manhattan whiskey distillery since Prohibition, Great Jones Distilling Co. honors the classic spirit of New York while celebrating the new. Furthering the theme of homage and innovation is the announcement of the specialty The Basquiat Bar popup and bottle collection at the Great Jones Distillery. Located down the block from the artist's apartment and famous Noho art studio, Basquiat's influence returns to the neighborhood.
The Great Jones speakeasy has transformed to honor TriBeCa’s Mudd Club, a punk-progressive underground venue, frequented by icons such as Lou Reed, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol and Basquiat himself. The space highlights photos of Basquiat and friends, and two borrowed original Basquiat prints from Pace Editions. For a more exclusive experience, guests are encouraged to indulge in the distillery experience. All tours welcome guests to the downtown New York-inspired tasting room experience, Basquiat's New York, housed in the distillery’s Barrel Room. Tours and tastings in the Barrel Room, accompanied by oversized Basquiat imagery, larger-than-life decals, and nostalgic items from 1980’s New York.
Along with a capsule of specialty merchandise, the collection also includes three exclusive art-deco inspired bottles featuring Basquiat artwork and details such as his iconic “Pez Dispenser” Dinosaur graphic, his “Untitled, 1982” (Skull) and his “Untitled, 1982 (Crown)”. The Basquiat Bar opened on August 3rd, welcoming guests with a menu of Basquiat-inspired small bites and signature cocktails. Available by reservation-only at Resy on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6-10PM.
