On June 19th, 2023, Prada unveiled their Spring/Summer 2024 Menswear collection with a runway at the historic Fondazione Prada in Milan. The renowned designers behind the collection, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, made an appearance at the show. Titled Fluid Form, the concept portrayed themes of fluid architecture around the human body. The collection aimed to challenge the conventional purpose and function of garments, offering a new perspective to achieve freedom of the body.
The collection is made unique by the reconstruction of garments that combat visually traditional notions of menswear. The reimagined menswear looks marry cutting edge silhouettes with intrinsic flexibility. A recurring garment is a classic shirt that serves as a transformative base, used to make solo statements and accompany other menswear pieces such as suits, raincoats, and sportswear.
The venue itself perfectly complemented the futuristic theme of the collection. Housed in a former gin distillery dating back to 1910, the Fondazione Prada showcases a coexistence of new and regenerated buildings, including warehouses, laboratories, and brewing silos. The Deposito, which previously existed as a laboratory, was transformed by a fusion of platinum silver, industrial-styled metals that echoed the collection's themes from floor to ceiling. The center runway stage stood illuminated by overhead lights, as the models preceded the rectangular walkway loop.
The guests sat surrounding the runway upon benches made from patterned non-slip metal. Notable attendees include Jaehyun, Troye Sivan, Louis Partridge, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Harris Dickinson and many more.
At the end of the show, the design duo–Simons and Prada–preceded the parade to take their bows and blow kisses to the audience. Their attendance further emphasized the significance and anticipation surrounding Prada's Spring/Summer 2024 Menswear collection.
