Mexican-American designer Willy Chivarria made his Paris Fashion week debut with a collection titled Tarantula. The collection demonstrates a clear dedication to his identity as a designer, sending a collection of rich colors and textures down the runway. Chavarria blends his Mexican heritage with contemporary American and European silhouettes, creating a thoughtful collection about resistance, resilience, and identity.

Chivarria uses baggy silhouettes to represent long-standing working-class fashion, historically pioneered by black, brown, and queer folks. Sending these garments down the runway shares a clear message from Chivarria about identity politics. The collection represents fashion as the outward expression of self and speaks about how humans construct their identity in relation to their heritage and communities.

The looks feature oversized tailored suits embellished with large roses and rosaries. Some looks feature cowboy hats and bandanas, which bring a relaxed feeling to sophisticated looks. The womenswear looks are powerful and feminine with structured shoulders, pencil skirts, and classic black stilettos. Despite the femininity presented in these looks they all have a unisex feel to them, clearly showing Chivarria's queerness expressed through his design.

Velvet textures bring vibrancy and playfulness to the collection, also demonstrating the performance of identity. Standout looks include gender-bent styles like a male presenting model wearing a floor-length red dress with pillowy off-the-shoulder silhouettes and womenswear looks featuring tailored suits and cowboy hats, subverting viewers' understanding of the collection and further incorporating an essential queerness to the collection.

The sporty looks, made in collaboration with Adidas, add dynamic to the runway. These looks and the ready-to-wear collection demonstrate power and strength, emulating images of 90s streetwear and boxers. The sweatshirt featured in look 28 is made in collaboration with Tinder for the Human Rights Campaign to support LGBTQ rights. In attendance at the show were fashion icons Gabbriette, Lucas Sabbat, and Michèle Lamy, as well as Honey Dijon, NLE Choppa, J Balvin, and Becky G. Chivarria demonstrates a real commitment to his artistic identity with this campaign and makes waves at Parish Fashion week with an unforgettable collection full of vitality, detail, and resilience.
