Los Angeles alternative/soul artist [KiNG MALA](https://www.instagram.com/kingmalamusic/) is paving the way with her new single “She Calls Me Daddy.” The tune speaks of the constant fight put up by straight men when it comes to bisexual relationships. Often finding herself in situations that resulted in men assuming they can steal her girl, real name Areli Castro is taking back control and showing us how she reclaims what's hers. “She Calls Me Daddy” is relevant to the notion that regardless of what these men think, her girl is going back to her at the end of the day regardless.
The song has a character to it, with the prowling bass line and steady beat giving a confident punch, which is highly apt for the lyrics and empowering themes. “She Calls Me Daddy” has utterly visual and playful lyricism that grasps your attention amongst the classic KiNG MALA piano stabs and pulses of trumpet. Her vocals clear the waters for the words to shine bright, making it hard to not lose yourself in her soulful, delicious tones.
The songwriter admits, “The whole ‘I’m gonna steal your girlfriend’ vibe was so cool to play around with,” but all in all, she only wants to normalize queer relationships and empower women and non-binary people to feel badass. This tune is highly empowering, witty, and gives KiNG MALA the spotlight to share her experiences and her strengths.
