Jessica Alba joins forces with DL1961 to launch an 18-piece, eco-conscious denim collection
Founded in NYC in 2009, DL1961 is notable for fusing technology with fashion, resulting in less environmental strain. This attracted Alba to the global premium denim brand, as she is also committed to empowering people to live healthier lifestyles through her Honest company.
Alba designed seven distinct styles of denim—from high-waisted to skinny—keeping fit, lift and support at the forefront creatively. Alba used trimtone technology in the skinnies to provide an extra “asset-boosting hold,” giving the wearer an ultra slim look; however, each item was designed to foster flexibility, achieving a close-fitting silhouette.
Flare-legged denim, boyfriend cuts, and a body-skimming jumpsuit round out the collection nicely, adding to the variety of product offerings. Dark and solid earth tones are sprinkled throughout to carry splashes of color, while validating the simplistic nature of the design.
Alba used her girlfriends as fit models, garnering functional feedback used to perfect the realistic fits. “We all want to have a great booty when we put our jeans on, but we also want to be comfortable. Details are everything when it comes to design, especially when it comes to jeans. That's why I was obsessed with things like proportions of crops or the placements of pockets and zippers. If it didn't make sense to me or my girlfriends, it didn't make the cut—I'm all about the reality,” explained Alba.
Impressed with Alba’s dedication to the precision of design, DL1961 Creative Director, Sarah Ahmed explained, “Jessica really spent time on the details of this collection, which you can appreciate the minute you put a pair of her jeans on. I loved being able to collaborate with someone who is such an empowered business woman who also clearly enjoys the creative process.”
