Trinidadian-American recording artist DUVV premieres her newest single from the upcoming EP _ACID_, complete with an introspective music video. The single, “Was You,” focuses on attempts at avoidance. However, the feelings you wish to neglect follow you wherever you go, forcing you to feel.
The music video is divided in two parts, creating a dichotomy of this emotional avoidance-acceptance marriage. The first portion of “Was You” laments the extroverted. We see DUVV roaming a flashy club, attempting to hold back tears slowly creeping up on her.
Cut to the second portion, with the artist alone atop an empty rooftop, highlighting the introverted: The times when feelings, however much we’ve tried to bypass them, bring us to our reckoning.
According to DUVV, “The video juxtaposes direct eye contact with the concept of concealing sadness, which I think reflects where some of us are right now.”
Based in New York, DUVV creates alternative R&B, a futuristic version of soul, studded with enough synthetic firepower to bring her lyricism to life. Her music entered conception while she was living in Seoul, and _ACID_ marks one of the first independent releases by the usually collaborative artist. _ACID_ drops in November of this year.
