Noir-pop songstress [Maiah Manser](https://www.instagram.com/maiahmanser/?hl=en) is back with her newest single, “DoLL,” an ode to femininity. Manser — who has supported the likes of Hiatus Kaiyote, Bishop Briggs, and Crystal Castles — seeks to modernize iconic female figures throughout history—including the Virgin Mary, Odette of Swan Lake, Medusa, and Yoko Ono.
Manser, an independent, queer artist, was inspired to create the dreamy and ethereal “DoLL,” which was directed by [MOM](https://www.instagram.com/directedbymom/), after facing a heart-wrenching betrayal by her ex. The song — which was a poem in its inception — takes a refreshing stance on the nature of the “good woman.”
“‘DoLL’ first came as a poem that I wrote after an ex told me while I was intoxicated at a Halloween party that he had cheated on me with my roommate,” Manser reveals. “Needless to say, I was upset and wanted to release this notion that I was always hoping I would be a good enough woman for him or good enough for any of my past partners that had hurt me or left me. I wanted to call out toxic masculinity. I never thought it would become a song, but the lyrics fit perfectly over a beat Buddy Ross was creating one night. After being rearranged by Ceci G. and produced by Kyle McCammon, I have a song that fires me up and will forever remind me that I am good enough.”
And good enough, she certainly is. Manser, who appears as one of the icons in her video, underscores her empowering message with stunning visuals and beautiful dance sequences. _Flaunt_ is excited to premiere Manser’s glam interpretation of historical powerhouses below.
