As I take a sip of Reposado Mizunara, the new expression from Tequila Casa Dragones, a vibrant split screen of terroirs begins to unfurl: to one side, blue agave, rich volcanic soil from the lowlands of Jalisco, and to the other, a forest of twisting 200 year old Japanese Mizunara oaks, the source of the casks in which Reposodao Mizunara is rested. Notes of magnolia and orange blossom, butterscotch and spice underscore the multi-year program to explore the diverse profiles that Tequila Casa Dragones takes on when aged in rare woods.
The result is an expression-the label's fourth, alongside a Joven, Blanco, and Barrel Blend-that showcases Casa Dragones' respect for craftsmanship, a quality shared with the independent Japanese cooperage who crafted the Mizunara casks. As Co-Founder, CEO and Maestra Tequilera Bertha González Nieves notes, "Innovation is what we like to do best, to explore the possibilities within the tequila category. Which is why we're excited to continue our journey of taste with Casa Dragones Reposado Mizunara, rested in a rare Japanese oak that marries beautifully with our tequila.”
