Founded by Nadine and Tom Michelberger, the Michelberger Hotel is a former historic factory reimagined as a modern boutique hotel in Berlin’s Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district. Blurring the lines between hotel, community center, and creative hub, the Michelberger has been a constant work in progress, embracing collaboration, artistic expression, and dialogue for more than a decade. With architects Werner Aisslinger and Sigurd Larsen and designer Jonathan Tuckey, the Michelberger team has transformed this industrial structure into an inviting haven where rooms vary in style and affordability.
Welcoming everyone from travelers to curious locals, the ground floor is designed to encourage interaction and comfort, featuring a welcoming lobby with a bar that serves locally roasted coffee, organic lunches, and homemade pastries. The open space flows naturally into a green courtyard and an organic restaurant, creating a seamless atmosphere for relaxation and mingling. Fostering a feeling of community by hosting regular artistic events and discussions, the Michelberger makes it more than just a place to stay — it’s a gathering spot for creative minds, whether they’re there for work, pleasure, or simply to enjoy Berlin’s eclectic charm.
At the heart of the hotel’s culinary offering is the Michelberger Restaurant, led by Head Chefs Alan Micks and Andreas Rieger, who craft a menu in harmony with the seasons. Ingredients are sourced from their very own Michelberger Farm in Spreewald and select local suppliers, ensuring each dish is fresh, organic, and sustainably produced. Open for brunch and dinner, this restaurant serves a bountiful buffet of warm and cold dishes, including freshly baked bread, pastries, and savory options. Locally roasted coffee, teas, fresh juices, and Michelberger's own coconut water, known as “The Fountain of Youth,” are also available for purchase.
Dinner at the Michelberger Restaurant has an interactive experience centered around a three-course menu that changes daily. Designed to encourage conversation, the meal features sharing plates, individual main courses, and desserts à la carte. Selected by the hotel’s sommelier, Josh Fine, he curates a pairing wine list with both classic and adventurous selections, sourced from small local importers. To complete the dining experience, a carefully crafted menu of cocktails and spirits is available at the bar.
The Michelberger Hotel regularly hosts music festivals and gatherings, crafting unforgettable weeks filled with music, community, and a unique spirit of creative independence. One highlight is the “Lift Off” series, launched in Spring 2020. This series brings people together in the hotel and at the historic GDR radio station, resurrected as a collaborative, commercial-free space for artists and audiences alike. Through this initiative, the Michelberger invites everyone into an inspiring environment where interviews, discussions, and artistic explorations spark connection and mutual discovery.
“Lift Off” is also driven by a bold vision to foster meaningful conversations on everything from political issues and social visions to ancient wisdom, global consciousness, and dreams of a transformed world. This series aims to cultivate a sense of belonging and shared responsibility — encouraging us to care for both ourselves and the planet. The program champions a world that balances self-awareness with social mindfulness, uniting people around shared values and aspirations.
Each month, the Michelberger publishes a newsletter spotlighting a new theme, along with a series of related events that explore mindfulness, self-awareness, and spirituality. Guests can participate in Kundalini Yoga classes, meditation sessions, chanting circles, and film screenings. From ceremonial cacao gatherings to ecstatic dance and ritual practices, these events provide a space for reflection, connection, and inspiration.
